Tove was designed for Berlin based MTC Commerce, specifically their furniture and interiors brand, Kazai. Form finding and countless 3D printed prototypes were followed by rigorous industrial design optimisation.

During the development of the bin, close attention was paid to how the user would interact with the lid. The lid had to close by itself and return to the correct position every time it was used. At first weights and a different mechanism were tested but eventually a much more seamless solution was found. The necessary ribbing on the underside of the lid was adapted to be taller on the side of the lid which needed the extra weight in order to close more reliably. This solution was seamless, aesthetic and cost saving.
